What Is A Cricut Machine And Why Do I Need One?

If you’re a crafter looking for the perfect tool, you won’t find anything better than the Cricut. Of course, if you’re a crafter, you have probably heard of this machine already, but you might not know if it’s worth the expense. The Cricut is an absolute must-have because it will expand the types of projects you can do and how quickly you can do them!

How Does A Cricut Machine Work?

cricut cutouts - rqc supplyThe Cricut is a die-cutting machine that works similarly to a printer, but for more materials than just paper and it’s usually not printing designs out. The user creates an image or design on their computer and sends it to the Cricut; the machine then cuts it out of paper, vinyl, fabric, faux leather, craft foam, or any other material of your choice with a small cutting blade mounted inside the machine. The most recent model series, Cricut Explore Air, can cut materials up to 12″ wide. When the crafter has the design prepared and is ready to cut it out, they load the material of choice onto a sticky mat and load the mat into the slot. The mat holds the material in place while the Cricut blade cuts out the design. When it’s finished, the mat is removed from the machine and the crafter can peel their project off it. The Cricut can be used as a printer if needed. The machine has an accessory slot in which the user can load a marker, and the Cricut “draws” the design onto the material. It’s perfect for creating gorgeous, consistent handwriting for invitations or thank-you cards.

Why Do I Need A Cricut Machine?

Cricut machines are the handiest and most affordable machines of their type on the market. Over time the Cricut has become a lot more versatile, too. While Cricuts used to work with interchangeable cartridges, these days all the designs are digital. The Cricut Explore series gives crafters access to a huge digital library of “cartridges” through the Cricut Design Space (an online design software). Crafters can take any text or shape from the Design Space and send it to their Cricut.  Crafters can also upload any font or shape that’s on their computer to make a design in the Design Space. Most Cricut models work through wifi or Bluetooth, allowing designers to make their creations on not just their computers, but on their iPhones or iPads, too! cricut ornaments - rqc supplyYou need a Cricut machine because the affordability and a sheer number of options in the Design Space will completely change the way you do crafts. • Stencils for painting or drawing
  • Unique letters for scrapbooking
  • DIY party decorations like bunting and favours
  • Christmas ornaments
  • Unique labels for envelopes and gifts
  • Vinyl decorations for glassware and mugs
  • Etch glass with the right kind of vinyl (don’t stick glass in the machine!)
  • Quilt squares or appliqués
